One of my junior associates recently resigned and I've been trying to make an exit myself for several months now. The job market has been really competitive but I am getting closer to getting a new job and moving on. The firm culture isn't great and work-life balance is non existent. My physical and mental health have been suffering, so I really don't think I could stay. How did you avoid the guilt trips from Partners/Senior staff trying to get you to stay?

Went on Vacation and company owner freaked out that I’m away when there are some important deals going on. Ironically hes away this week too. Theres not much going on for me to do while away just some minor follow ups, but has anyone ever experienced this before? Howd you handle? People that have small children - how do you deal with your child’s stress and separation anxiety when you go to work? My 4-year old goes berserk almost every day at some point relating to me having to work. The worst part is that I’ve been working from home bc of Covid and I’m literally just walking upstairs after giving hugs and kisses and saying see you soon 800 times. My spouse is a stay at home parent, but that doesn’t seem to matter to my son. A piece of me dies everyday because of this.

How bad is it to leave an understaffed team right before fall busy for a job in a new city? Part of me doesn’t care at all b/c it’s a business decision, part feels like I’m totally screwing the team.

Are there any tax professionals in the Lancaster, PA area that are looking to leave public? The recruiter for my company says there's no one out there and I get that a LCOL area in Pennsylvania won't have the applicant pool as a bigger city but I find it hard to believe there are no tax people available for the jobs we have.

Why do leaders keep comparing how “good”the new staff/seniors have it because they make more money starting out then they did and working 55 hours is better than the 70-80 hours they used to work? Instead they should compare what options they have available to them and what their goals are.
