I’ve been promoted with a title but not the responsibilities. I’m job searching and am primarily looking at postings that don’t include my promoted title — I’m not sure how to professionally articulate in an interview why I would be willing to take a “step down”. I need some career advice. I finished my master's degree in international law (B.A.Sc international relations) but I am not sure where to go from here. I always wanted to join a big firm and I've applied to different vacancies in international firms/companies but got rejected from all of them.

I've become really jaded about consulting. I find all so often you need to tell the client what they want to hear to keep their business and I feel like so much of the what I recommend doesn't actually get implemented. I'm looking to make a career switch so I can both create and execute on my strategies. A product management path seems very promising for this.

I was approached on LinkedIn for an early career recruiting role in DFW, TX. I don't have direct experience, but I have the university experience/connections from working in career services. This is the first time I've considered work outside of higher education. I said my salary expectations are minimum $90k and that didn't seem to be an issue. Am I asking too little, too much? How can I know I'm getting the best salary and not just settling at the low end of the range?
