Congrats on the upcoming birth. Hopefully you are both able to take a bit of time off to enjoy the new addition. Depending on the delivery it may take the mother quite some time to bounce back and this is extended by the constant needs of the child. Develop a cadence where you can take on most of the house work, and allow her naps while entertaining the child. Between pumping, feeding and sleeping there isn't much other time for her available to do life. I'm more of a morning person and she a night owl so I handled all child needs in the early AM, did work and then let her handle child in evening while I'd grab a nap or head back to work.
I know as a dad myself, we like to go with the flow on things but trust me, read up as much as you can on what to do and the responsibilities you’re going to have going forward. You’ll probably be on night feeds if your wife isn’t breastfeeding, and get ready for some stinky diapers 😆 but in all seriousness, the best advice we got was from a familiy member who recommended getting our baby on a sleep schedule asap. It’s hard work but the best book we’ve found on it would be “Cherish The First Six Weeks” by Hellen Moon. It’s been a godsend and our 6m old was sleeping through the night around 5-6 weeks in 7pm-7am. The book goes through a lot of information about how important sleep is for babies growth and development, but you’ll be thanking yourself for getting them on a feed and sleep schedule and then structuring your lives around it.
