if you went to bclaw you’re fine. just apply
Some firms are more strict than others. If you know someone at a firm, see if they'd be willing to pass along your resume (at my firm GPA is less relevant if a candidate is recommended). Also, definitely go to any meet and greet type events that firms have this summer ahead of OCIs. Good luck!
Thank you!
Apply anyway!
Do you go to BC law? Are you from Boston? What do you consider to be a “decent” private practice job? What would you like to do? Like, what would make you happy to practice?
Hi! I am a foreigner but will remain in Boston. I go to BC Law and I am interested in Corporate Tax, International Tax, Trusts&Estates, and Compliance. (Preferably transactional work, big4, or private accounting)
I think shell or someone is hiring 2L’s in Amsterdam. Take it finish your 3L at uni of Amsterdam and never come back. Save yourself.
What?
You have time to bring it up. You missed the first year, but are still in a good position to increase your merit. Find a location you want and reach out to connect with alum for any suggestions on how to get in. You got this!
Just apply. You never know.
There is no difference in gpa cutoffs for "diversity" hires. Apply where you would like to work and see whether you get hired.
I graduated with 2.9 GPA because of various issues such as sickness and family issues. 5 years out, I'm at v20 law firm. Some firms care more than others. Focus on getting your gpa up and then getting good experience. You can always lateral
You can bring it back to a 3.2-3.5 by the time you graduate. Don’t worry even if you start small you can work your way up. I graduated from a top 20 law school with a 3.2, started at a small firm and lateraled until I ended up at an amlaw 100 firm. It took two years and I had to network like crazy. All you need is someone to refer you and they will ignore the gpa. You got this!
Are there different GPA cutoffs for diversity positions?
Not that I am aware of but I have heard that diverse candidates might get more leniency with GPA.
