Hi fish,
Been assigned PM on a customer project about a month and a half ago, but haven't seen any raise/title change.
Customer is vocally happy with how the project is rolling, upper management is also happy. I setup a call with HR to discuss the position and the compensation. Wanted to get a feel of what's fair.
Company of about 50 ppl, and I'm getting a 110k salary for senior software engineer/dev lead position with 7 YOE in this company.
What data should I prep?

show ur projects completed on time/on budget (baseline vs actuals), possible lessons learned feedback- what u did well/can change. How you improved from that in the following projects. Total revenue realized from all ur projects to date, how much revenue you are forecasting ( current total $$ managed), highlight how your technical expertise has helped resolve issues. Also- it may help to highlight your knowledge of PM tools and processes. Agile, etc. I would lightly mention possibly getting PMP cert or the like..

Fingers crossed. Getting out of there as soon as my GC finalizes. I appreciate the support.

What percentage of increase do you think would be reasonable to both sides? It doesn't seem like they're accustomed to paying you what you're worth, but at the same time, you really need to get closer to a reasonable amount.

like

My prior negotiations weren't as successful, obviously, they're not willing to go reasonably high on it. I'll try again this time with some more data. Hopefully the new responsibilities help.

Is this in a LCOL location? You’re getting paid wayyy below market for senior swe/tech lead. I think at the least you should get a fair market comp regardless of performance

like

Well which is why I mentioned “average tech company”. O&G doesn’t fall into that category. Also like you said with remote theres a ton of companies that would be willing to pay 200+ for mid level roles so no one has to limit themselves to houston based tech companies anymore

What side of the country are you on? Consider working at Slalom.

like

Houston. I'll be open to all the opportunities in a bit.

That seems really low. Where are you located? I'd do some digging on Glassdoor and Levels.fyi so you'll have a better feel for what you're worth and then present that to HR, along with evidence of your value (e.g. customer feedback, management feedback, etc.)

like

Oh no, that's not even comparable esp. with 7 YOE. But I guess with just 50 ppl, that's something to expect. Have you seen a good % raise since you started?

like

Find a decent recruiter, take a few interviews. They are free. See what others would pay you. Then negotiate or take another job you think you would like. DON’T take a counter offer once you accept another job.

like

Comparable salary and benefits for the position at other companies. Fake/test interviews are a good idea. You can always take another company up on their offer if it's good.

like

Wow, I see all the surprised people. One missing bit of information - I'm on H1B and in progress of getting my GC. This has been a long process, and the compensation didn't reflect the market for sure. In 7 years I went from 65k to 110k. It is especially sad now that I see how much my company is charging the customer for me.

I'm already SAFE certified and applied the methodology successfully. I don't think certifications matter mucn to the management here. As per GC - yeah, any lawyer advises to just wait out. I'll try and get something lined up before It happens.

Starting us off with an important tip: Your resume is a marketing document, not an autobiography. It should include relevant jobs, responsibilities, and perhaps most importantly, achievements. Where you can quantify an accomplishment or just talk up a major project you led at work or in an internship, do so. The point is to make the hiring manager think, “Wow, I need to talk to this person! They seem like a good fit!”
