Hi Fishes,

I'm currently in talk of joining ZS Associates, with ~5 YoE from industry (healthcare/life science) and 7+ YoE in total.

It sounds like from the recruiter that it's more likely to come in as an AC first, not a C unless proven otherwise during the interviews. Should I even consider this opportunity since it might be a 'step-down' from my current position, and might not look as good in my resume?

Is it true levels at ZS are higher than other firms, MBB, B4, T2?

Hmm have they given you a salary range and if so is that what you’re targeting?

I’m not familiar with ZS, but you would definitely want something that’s a lateral move at a minimum with increased salary (and better career trajectory/exit ops) or a something you would consider a step higher with a bigger pay bump.

Pay wise is ok. Just not sure if it's a good choice career wise, also not sure if going in as an AC is a 'step-down' as an experienced hire. But seems like levels at ZS are higher than other firms?

My 2 cents:

At your YoE you seem more of a C than AC. But ZS does hire laterally at a level below your expected title. The ZS philosophy is that you must perform at the next level for at least 1 cycle before you're promoted so I guess they see you as an AC who's going to make C soon (1-2 cycles)

Again, just my 2 cents. I don't work in recruiting so insights purely based on my observations :)

Thanks for the 2 cents. That's a bummer though. how would they compete with other firms by giving experienced hires lowball offers

Let's say I can't get a product or marketing job in tech, but I could get in via sales or customer success. Does working in those roles pigeonhole you, or is it easy to switch later? If you take a job as a customer success mgr for ads, or as a partnership mgr for learning solutions for industry X, are you going to get stuck in those products (ads, learning solutions), roles (CS, sales/partnerships), or target industry (X)?

I am 85% sure I’ll take the offer, but wanted to see if anyone could think of acting I may be missing out on by leaving? FYI my inflation increase was larger than my promotion increase and my student loan payments also were stopped since I’m no longer an SA. I think what is holding me back is my guilt for my immediate team but just want to check.

1) would my application even get approved due to my income?

2) is this too much?

What is the advice on what feedback to leave for a peer who really sucks at everything y'all have worked together on? It's about the time where everyone on my team requests feedback from each other and I'm nervous for it coming up. My manager knows that everything I've worked w her on I end up doing 90% of the work when it's meant to be split so it is a known issue. We're both at level 3 so are genuinely peers. She seems like a nice person but i have 0 positive work feedback tbh

One of the reasons I want to transition from industry to consulting (tier 1) is that I get frustrated when I have to collaborate with mediocre people. My assumption is that Tier 1 consulting firms hire really sharp people and if I can get in, I’ll be collaborating with folks on top of their game (not expecting much from clients). I’m aware there are personal aspects I need to work on like my mindset, patience etc etc, but I just get so frustrated with blatant stupidity.
