Well I think we've all been through this at some point in our career. With experience you get better at setting boundaries and managing time, but until then I would recommend leaning on your boss to help. Maybe you don't need to be in all of those meetings during the day and can catch up with team members after? Maybe you just have too many projects on your plate. But think of it as learning how to manage up and to communicate what you can deliver on or you'll end up burning out or delivering a shitty output so it's a lose-lose situation.
Block time to complete stuff. Also, urgent and emergency usually mean for them or "I need to get this off my plate."
I know this is all part of the job but I want to show I can do the smaller tasks quickly so I can be given more of the strategic bigger picture tasks instead of always being in delivery mode.
Make a list of what meetings you are really needed in/leading and what you are a passenger in. Ask to be taken out of those meetings you don’t need to be in.
The meetings are what’s developing my strategic thinking. Personally I’d never prioritise opening a job number over a meeting but maybe that’s where I’m going wrong
I wake up early and get 2 hours of solid work done before meetings and random requests start coming in.
