Things changed for me when I gave in. I kept wanting to make a difference for myself but I’d always fail. It wasn’t until I just surrendered and started doing the AA program (with a sponsor, to the best of my ability, one day at a time) that I was able to find sobriety. You’re not alone.
I’d give SMART recovery a try. AA didn’t resonate with me either and it’s an alternative approach which is quite different in my view. Both group settings with caring peers going through similar battles, but you have to find which works for you!
