Hi, I'm a licensed lawyer in the Philippines with roughly 4 years of total legal experience. I have worked with law firms from the USA, Canada, and Australia. I'm interested in taking the state bar in some jurisdiction a few years from now.

For now, I'm interested in knowing if there are possibly any remote opportunities in US-based law firms looking for a legal assistant? What are the usual barriers to hiring from someone abroad? I'm hoping to increase my opportunities in direct hiring.

DM me. I know someone who is hiring.

Great!

I think there are tax reasons, firms are not willing to hire fully remote employees abroad.

You’re going to be hard pressed to find a lot of full remote firm roles, doubly so if you’re abroad.

You might be able to find contract work with solos

You could consider making a profile on a gig work site like Upwork—I know of attorneys seeking legal contractors there, with mixed results, but it may be a good option for your circumstances

There’s too many Americans looking for legal work rn.

Additional Posts in Ask A Recruiter - Law

I have an offer for $130k for a senior attorney position in a boutique L&E firm. Also have a recruiter who thinks she can get me into another for $150-170k. Both are more than I’ve ever made (Denver, 17 yrs of experience but completely different practice areas). Any tips for countering the $130k offer for more using the other potential offer while not risking a complete withdrawal of the current offer? I’ve never been in a position to bargain my starting salary so this is all very new to me.

I've been fortunate to be in a high-paying position in the Los Angeles area and I rarely see comparable positions posted. Any recommendations for finding the rare executive-level legal positions or for landing on the radar of the big executive search firms would be much appreciated!
