Hi! I’m about to have my first interview with the hiring manager for a Full-Time six month contract role. If they ask me about compensation, should I do an hourly, daily, or weekly rate? Slash... are there certain q’s i should get answered (ie hours per week) before providing my preferred comp structure & rates? Advice much appreciated on all fronts including other things to ask about/negotiate. Thanks!

I think you're probably safest going with a day rate, that's how compensation was structured for my most recent full-time contract. Hourly is probably too detailed for them to care about, but they'll want to avoid weekly because they won't want to pay you for company holidays/short weeks.

I'm probably not the best to ask about that tbh. But if I were trying to figure out a good rate for myself, I'd do all the math: set some reasonable annual salary that works, find some tax calculators to get an estimate on your burden, do a rough guess for your expenses (which honestly don't tend to exceed the standard deduction unless your job requires you to do lots of travel or buy lots of things, which doesn't happen too much), healthcare, etc. Adjust the salary up or down depending on how much you have left after all that stuff, and then divide by # of work days in your contract.

Just a guess though. I took the last offer I got because it was already pretty much their max 🤷‍♂️

For such a long contact a weekly or even monthly rate might make things easier. This doesn’t have to be anything special, just multiply your day rate accordingly and set boundaries for things like nights and weekends (extra, or if they expect that sort of work to be frequent, just account for 31 days a month regardless.

I feel like I might be missing an opportunity to ask for a promotion and hire a junior instead.

Main things to do are check your BP everyday at least the first ten days after you give birth, and go to hospital if it's very high (over 160/110). If you get severe headache or stomach ache then also be vigilant.

I’ve been a freelance print production designer for many years, and usually on-site in the before times. Now I work remote, and am finding it uneasy dealing with billing. Before I always billed hourly, which made sense, but it’s becoming an issue now. Some companies don’t have a full days’ work, so it seems wrong to bill full days, and it allows me to juggle projects for different companies, but my billable hours are down. I know I should bill a daily rate, but not sure that will fly. Thoughts?
