Slightly off topic, but how is AP viewed in London? How does it compare to T2 shops like OW, RB or S&?
Mind sharing your offer? Mba? I wouldn’t worry too much about your position coming in bc our roles aren’t really equivalent to the traditional associate/manger roles. Our VPs are performing the same type work as directors. Also, you’ll get to determine your trajectory, so if you perform well you’ll be promoted quickly. Cagr is great, you’ll be compensated well
Title is also less important here. No one really cares or treats anyone differently because of their title. I can from EY too and it took some adjusting.
You background is more like SVP to be honest. A bit surprised that we offered you the VP level. I’m assuming you applied for a specific position/title. Did HR change it at the offer stage and if so give you any explanation?

@OP I think it depends if you’re an AD or D on whether it’s a lateral move I wouldn’t believe an SE=VP however happy to be proven wrong here. Either way if the pay is higher and given the outlook on our bonuses etc It sounds like a pretty good move!
From what I’ve seen, post MBA from m7/insead gets offered VP. These people were previously SC’s at a big 4. Unless we truly think that an MBA is equivalent to the experience gap between SM and SC, I would ask for more.
I think London and all of EMEA is a bit different from the US. Post-MBAs come in at the C level whereas in the US, they come in at the VP. Take a look at LinkedIn to make sure I am not on crack.
I found a few profiles of MBA + industry experience at the C level from LinkedIn. Not sure what to say, just sharing my observations
Is EY’s SM in the UK equivalent to the same title in the US? If yes, you should ask for an SVP title.
It’s true title matters very little here in terms what you do, but it affects your total comp and promotions.
M2, a labor market is more competitive when there is less supply than demand (i.e., firms compete more for people).
A labor market is less competitive when there is more supply than demand (i.e., workers compete to get hired).
If transferring requires a demotion, that’s a case of less competitive labor market (i.e., workers compete more, firms compete less)
Consulting compensation, in general, is less in Europe than in the US. I believe post MBA consultant at Bain is paid 90k GBP ($113K) compared to $165K in the US, even though the cost of living in London (where most of Bain’s UK operation is) is higher than almost all cities in the US.
In the case of which level you join upon graduation from MBA - it’s the same logic. Also to be abundantly clear, we don’t pay VP in Europe more than SVPs in the US.
Is that clear?
OP what practice are you joining ?
