Currently working on a three person team in a larger GC group. I lateraled from a different group that did not pay attorneys on an attorney scale. What’s a fair expectation for my first raise? Publicly traded co with ~2500 employees. I’ve been doing litigation with the company for almost 3 yrs and have only had a 2% cost of living raise so far. Graduated in 2014. Base comp is $127.5k in the Philly area. I see salaries all over the place in this site and it’s hard to tell whether mine is competitive.

How does your company manage (track) all of the documents related to a merger you are working on? Are you using a matter management software, a spreadsheet, shared file, etc? Keeping up with the moving pieces is killing me with just a spreadsheet.

For in-house counsel roles, does firm prestige matter? For example, would the fact that an applicant is from Sullivan & Cromwell vs, say, White & Case matter at all, or is it much more about experience/interview? What is work-life balance like in big tech legal? I’m currently in house at a large multinational; I like my job and I get paid fine, with a very good WLB (40-45 hrs). I want to look into FAANG-type opportunities as they would mean a huge pay bump, and I think I’m qualified, but I have no idea about the hours, and I don’t want to substantially give up WLB, as that’s why I left BigLaw. I don’t want to be miserable again. I know Amazon is poorly reputed for lawyer WLB… what about other places?

Would you strongly advise against going in-house right after a state court clerkship? (No law firm experience in law school either). I don’t know if I want to become an in-house forever. Would it be difficult to get a law firm job at a later time?

How recession-proof are in house roles in finance (e.g., hedge funds, PE firms, etc.), especially when newly lateraling from Big Law?

Anyone ever considered contractor gig in Meta/Facebook or any other big players in tech? I'm full-time in a smaller company and it's pretty stable. Wondering if the move could be worthwhile. Mostly want to explore other areas. Other things to consider: planning for babies in the next 3-5 years; maternity leave in current position is basically what's legally required.

Has anyone been given an offer or received further movement on their application after a month or more from your last interview? Not sure if it’s odd that the company reached out after my final round interview to have a call and “discuss next steps” but then they haven’t responded to me since I’ve followed up (I’ve poked 3 times every 11 days or so but I plan to leave it be now until they respond).

How far do you require depts be with negotiating commercial contract terms before your legal review? I’m talking routine low value and risk contracts (e.g., vendor services), where Legal terms won’t kill the deal. My clients blindly forward contracts. I say “are you sure this term is ok?” And often get “no.” They’re surprised because they never read them. Checking the temp to see what others experience, what might be normal. I feel contract training in my clients’ future...
