Moms in Advertising

Hi to all the mamas who have been laid off! I’ve been laid off since the start of this whole mess and wondering what other mamas (especially the single ones like me) are doing/thinking/feeling about their next steps? Just looking for some comrades here as I’m feeling a little daunted at the fact that no one is hiring right now. Anyone need any score work/music for their projects? At this point, I’m super happy to do spec work just to keep busy and feel creative still.

Just here to say that single moms are absolutely superhuman.

I was told I was hard to work with. I had my 4 month old at home with me. Had to stop breastfeeding because I couldn’t keep up. So we will see if I have a job in a couple months. It will come back. Jobs will be back.

Is your kid older? Mine is a toddler and I have no time to do anything.

Ahh. My kid is about the same age. My spouse and I are both not working but our place isn’t big and it’s just a lot. Naptime is when I exercise and look for jobs and then it’s basically back to entertaining the monster until one of us cracks and puts the tv on. I’m not sure how I would be doing a full time job right now.

Single mom to a 4 year old and lost my last client on April 24th so officially unemployed. It’s been hard bc we have no family nearby. Very worried as well as I don’t get help financially from her dad and he also lives out of state. Have been working with an ex-colleague on some ‘for equity’ start-ups in hopes one of them results in a little down the road. Definitely a tough time and don’t feel guilty about TV time! There are days I don’t allow it and others I just need a break so I let her watch it so I can do things Reach out to chat anytime if you want to chat with another unemployed single toddler mama 🙂

Single mom to a 9yr old and it has been tough. Grateful that I still have work but with a pretty good pay cut. Hang in there to everyone who has posted so far. Give yourself a break because you are all amazing!! Sweat it out, laugh it out, cry it out, eat it out. Most importantly get-up!! Just rising for another day is a moment to celebrate! Cheers to you!

I’m a single mom to a ten year old, grateful to be working from home, but the distance learning is killer. By the end of the day I’m fried. Too much TV, NetFlix watching, but it’s keeping both of us sane. God help me when school ends...

Bye bye Accenture, I joined about a year ago as an experienced hire and have been on a project about 6 months out of 13 (50% chargeability). The leadership needs a program to help experienced hire to adjust in the company. Consulting, the "networking", PowerPoint making isn't just for me. I have a technical background and was losing my skills since I joined. Accenture is a great company and I'd advise anyone to leverage the countless training provided.

Recommendations on charities that pick up donated furniture and other items? or “junk” removal in the city? It’s been incredibly difficult to find charities to pick up furniture and other items during the pandemic. Moving out of state and just need to get rid of things- preferably to those who need it

Interviewed (via Zoom) with an out of town firm about a possible lateral position in mid-March. They were extremely positive, hinted at an offer, but stated it was a timing issue with COVID (understandable). Checked in a few times, silence for months, wrote it off, but was informed recently go before the Hiring Committee early next week. Assuming it goes well, is it appropriate to ask to fly down to meet others/ learn more given the passage of time?
