I have a friend that has worked as a management hiring manager for two different F100 firms and she said they would rather burn through 5 MBB hires to find a good one than hire a good non-MBB candidate once. The preference was THAT strong among the executive ranks at those two companies. And they aren’t even super desirable F100s.
Yeah, I see entire innovation teams staffed with MBB consultants. What’s interesting to me is how people who don’t understand consulting talk about it. I’ve heard one person mention how a colleague was MBB and they were so lucky to have gotten them...but, when I looked into that person, they had an internal role for about a year. Talk about frustrating.

MBB folks come and go pretty quick in my VP’s domain (product management). They come with limited tech skills but we have some pressure to hire externally.
I have an analytics background and am acquiring more tech skills - but not from MBB. It makes zero sense to focus on MBB if they don’t have the right skills.
Google1, is there an overall strong preference towards MBB over other firms such as T2/Big4 at Google?
I know software developers at G that only had associate degrees, making a ton of $. People should stop limiting theirselves and looking at what they lack; start looking at all you have to offer and keep trying.
