I think I would do the same. I don't need to fire an employee because of their behavior in their personal life as long as it doesn't involve serious cases like murder, rape, or robbery. Everyone has a frustrated angry person inside them and I can't punish someone for being human. That's just how I see it. Would love to know what others have to say!

Depends. For my own company, I would do something similar. She is the founder of this company which affords her a lot of flexibility. I don’t know that I would be as protective in a different kind of corporate environment where I would be putting my own livelihood at risk.

Cancel culture needs to go! Great job on this employer!

That depends on the company, some companies expect you to act while you’re at work the same way you act outside because if you’re not going to be moral and have integrity outside, you’re not going to do that at work either. So companies expecting that is a complete possibility.

Since this CEO has her own company, she gets to make the rules. But I would not be surprised if this happens in the future with this particular employee with another employee at work.

How forgiving I could be depends on what they did and why.

My judgement would be very situational. Especially if people connected them to my business. I would have to weigh how good of an employee they were and how much I could reasonably or ethically defend as a leader/business owner.

I could look past a lot of misdemeanors for a very good employee.

I had on a few occasions people contact me from outside the firm about actions my employees took on their personal time. That included an employee getting drunk after work with colleagues there and another made some questionable social media posts.

In those cases I talked to the employees just to let them know what’s going on. But I wouldn’t terminate unless it’s a last straw situation or is directly impactful or dangerous to the company or coworkers.

People do stupid stuff all the time. And sometimes they get found out and tell the employer. Most of the time they don’t. I’m not their mom or parole officer.

Yeah, and who is calling ya know. A bitter Betty neighbor or CNN?

Small firm (my boss, me, & a paralegal). After a hearing I did not handle, boss intended to seek review of the ruling in its entirety. What was communicated to me by paralegal was to seek review of a portion.

Seeking review is now time-barred. Boss is not upset, but this is 1 case & 1 problem. There are other cases & other stories.

How do I talk to my boss about being more present (boss is never in office, has “too many” emails, never answers his phone) without being seen as insubordinate?

This just happened to me and the sheer amount of effort that is going to go into collecting all the documents almost makes me not want to follow through.
