Homemade Sazon Seasoning
Sazon is a seasoning used a lot in Latin America and the Caribbean. The most famous brand of Sazon seasoning packet is from the brand Goya which you will see as a common staple in households. The Goya seasoning has MSG.
As I don’t cook Latin American cuisine that often, I don’t have packets of Sazon laying about so I had to make something out of nothing. The star of the show is the Annato powder which gives this seasoning its distinctive bright red orange color. 1 and 1/2 teaspoon of this homemade seasoning is equivalent to the Goya packet.
3 tbs Annato powder
2 tbs garlic powder
2 tbs onion powder
2 tbs ground cumin
2 tbs ground coriander
1 tbs oregano
1/2 tsp turmeric
1/4 tsp ground white pepper
Mix all ingredients and store in an airtight container. Will keep for 1-2 months in a cool dry place.
Use this seasoning for anything to meats, rice, soups, stews.
