It’s a spicy take, but I see where you’re coming from. That said, I think the next wave might look completely different—less about traditional junior dev roles, more about niche expertise, integration, and business fluency layered over technical tools. The ladder changed, not disappeared.
What about old people still working but not getting it? The worst are database admins, its like they never had to learn anything new so now theyre kind of useless but due to regulations, i cant just layoff our DBAs.
I wouldn’t write off tech yet. The work is evolving, not disappearing. Roles that combine judgment, problem-solving, and impact, especially around AI, data, and systems thinking, are still growing. It’s less about entry-level coding and more about adaptable skills and business impact.
Worth to learn only if you go independent. If you are good, you won't need help besides AI. You need to recognize your skillset and abilities. It really takes you becoming a one man army to accomplish anything.
But getting a job just to do the HTML or markup has been long gone. WordPress killed that and AI is just next evolution of that as it is even easier for small business to make a website for little money on their own. That said, I'd argue small business just really needs social media followings vs a website now.
