How are my fellow immigrants coping with this madness? The idea of layoffs (money,visas) and not being able to go back home (no flights /borders closed) is freaking me out

How is everyone? As we see more and more layoffs in our industry, we know there are so many navigating what it looks like to now be unemployed. The others still working are left with gaps on their teams and sadness over the loss of their peers, leaders, and friends.

Ok so another FAANG has confirmed layoff this week. Amazon joining the layoffs group with 10k layoffs!!

After 6 years of temporary contracts and unstable situations, I find my dream job in my dream company. All of a sudden the world goes upside down and I get laid off. I start sending hundreds of applications, with only 2 recruiters getting back to me to say I don’t have experience for the job (this is how it works in Italy). Add a terrible health situation in my family and it seems there’s no light at the end of the tunnel. Ugh. 😞

Does everyone who gets fired be eligible for it?

Any body have to take a month off work to go to rehab then return? With a threat that most likely your current account will be handled by someone else and suffering lack of confidence maybe even fired

I got laid off but due to the WARN act, I am still on the payroll for a while. If a background check is done to look at employment history, do they see my official working end date, or the day I am off the payroll?

Heads up -- UHG just commenced mass layoffs within Sales and Network and other divisions. We're talking Directors, Sr. Directors, and VPs axed. Next round is in November. Foreshadowing Recession!

Working from home since march 2020, got promoted December, department had a major reorg couple of months back, responsibilities increased, work increased, hours increased. Follow up post to my last post…My husband was laid off from the company where I also work. I am feeling really isolated / depressed about working and moving forward. I’m also getting to a stage where I’m really sad that people haven’t reached out to either my husband or myself to send well wishes or provide support. It’s like they don’t know what to say or I make them feel awkward so they don’t bother…I’m trying to focus on a few that have been supportive but it’s hard…Any words of advice? 😞
