I think it’s unlikely to lose momentum entirely, DEI will always be crucial in OD work because it directly influences culture. The focus may evolve, but from what I'm seeing, organizations are considering DEI as more and more essential for long-term growth and innovation.
It disappeared once the new administration came in. They’ve been given “permission” to not care about DEI and became emboldened to carry on as they liked. Not much emphasis on ensuring equity in terms of promotions or compensations. They do what they want because they can.
It died out when Black Rock pulled out of ESG initiatives and the current administration shifted focus to merit based incentives instead of social justice.
I think it’s important to find an employer whose values best align with your own. Obviously, circumstances may dictate a certain degree of sacrifice (or cognitive dissident); however, you’ll likely never feel truly satisfied until you find that sweet-spot, regardless of compensation and incentives.
