Black and in finance? I’m not comfortable. Do my job, stay polite, go home

That sound about right
Not really. This has been one of the least comfortable work environments for me. When everyone is basically your boss/superior, it’s hard to relax and be natural.
At work I'm nothing like I am in public or at home. At work I don't present my opinions on any subject that isn't work related because I don't want to mess up my professional image. I rarely talk to other employees and try to tell them as little as possible about myself. Basically I feel like I'm there to work and that's all my mind is focused on.
Outside of work I'm not exactly an extrovert, but I have no problem striking up a conversation with someone at a bar and giving them my opinions on controversial subjects, telling them about my life and hobbies, telling jokes, etc.
I'm pretty comfortable. I joke around a lot and get along with my colleagues. I don't take myself too seriously.
I figured out at the start it would be too much effort to put on a facade at work. Much easier to just be you.
Nope, I really have to put a filter on at work. Naturally I'm a very sarcastic and make a lot of jokes but I know people here get butt-hurt over which way the wind blows.
I try to be a more toned down version of myself at work. It's hard, especially when I have the perfect sly remark but I don't feel like I can get away with those things as much as my peers.
Hmmm I am myself to an extent but a more professional version of myself I would say LOL.
Having no family or friends outside of work and coming from a immigrant household where I was not exposed to either their cultures (spoke different languages from myself and each other) nor american culture to any substantial extent, work has largely shaped who I am. I am myself at work.

Ooh! What’s your background or ethnicity?
The people is probably one of the best things about my office. Sure there is the occasional office drama and politics but for the most part everyone is great. We regularly go to lunch together and have gone for drinks after work quite a few times.

Now that’s nice! What company are you with and state if you don’t mind me asking?
I try to stay as close as the real me on the workplace as possible, but I have to admit that I am a slight different person in the working place.
At the workplace I mainly show my professional side, although I also show my funny side. However, outside the working place I tend to feel more free to fun around much more and maybe sometimes a little more "daringly" funny. I anticipate that not every joke will be accepted at the working place, so I take that into account. To summarize, I tend to watch my behavior more when I am at work, than outside my work.
