Bain & Company Is it truly easier to get in a smaller MBB office?
Have heard a lot for different opinions on these. The logic is that it’s easier because there is a lot of supply in cities like NY, Chicago and SF, but the counter argument is that the offices with less supply are also way smaller and have a lot less demand.

I did 6 weeks short term leave + 3 months maternity. That was enough for me. It felt lonely and I was ready to go back to work. My husband split his leave (for birth and end of my leave) to help with daycare transition
My firm didn't have policied maternity leave, it was whether you had short term disability or not and you chose what you wanted (unpaid of course). This was quite a ways back. Between short term disability and my chosen time off, I took 6 months off for each child. No regrets and honestly I should have taken longer.
I originally planned to take the full amount of time, but after 12 weeks, I was stir crazy and needed to interact intellectually with other adults. there is no right answer on this. You have to feel out what is right for you and your family.
My company gave 12 weeks paid care leave and i took 5 weeks PTO. That way i made it through the trenches of the newborn stage. If you could take more than 12 weeks i would highly recommend it. Good luck!
I took 6 months with each child. I was definitely not ready to go back at 3 months. That said, if I’d needed to go back after 3 months, I would’ve sucked it up and it would’ve been fine :)
I would love 6 months. I don’t think that’s feasible where I’m at. I might be able to get 4, with the right doctor language/paperwork. I really wish 6 months was the standard everywhere.
Thanks ladies!
