How do people handle new assignments while preparing to put in notice? I'm waiting on conflicts to clear at my new firm, and a partner asked me to give a client my availability to schedule bargaining sessions for union negotiations that will occur after I'm likely gone.

I think you just have to act business as usual for now. If you let them know and then anything goes wrong with the conflicts process (unlikely but possible) then you could end up jeopardising your current role.

like

Make it business as usual. You meet up, you talk, you learn about the case. Keep notes. And start writing the transition memo.

Here is the thing. If you decide to pass on cases and assignments, them conflicts won't clear and you will be stuck at your firm and have a hard time getting billables.

If you do act as if conflicts might not clear, then they will clear without a hitch.

like

Best thing to do is take a vacation while conflicts clear so that when they do your plate is light and makes for an easy transition off matters during your notice period. Ideally you take a week or two off, coast through an easy notice period and then have two weeks or more off before you start. Good opportunity to really reset.

Conflicts can drag on too. I’d agree with the business as usual.

I would give the client my availability to schedule bargaining sessions for union negotiations. If your availability changes for any reason, update the partner and client.

Reorgs are just a part of the corporate world. If you haven’t been a part of one in your career yet, then you most likely haven’t been in the corporate workforce for very long. If you have been a part of a reorg, however, how do you personally approach it? There are many factors at play, but in general do you try to establish relationships with the individuals you know will be key contributors and/or decision makers going forward? Or do you lay low and let what ever happens be/hope for the best?

Hi guys currently I'm working in a project with very stringent timelines. Sometimes we need to put more than 13-14 hrs each day. There are 4 members in my team. Two are involved in database prt and me and my lead are involved in the front end and middle layer prt. Somehow my lead is not at all pleased with my work. And even if I try to talk to him for something he is completely rude. Sometimes it makes me that I m completely useless. Even the other team members are following the lead

When first starting a small business is it absolutely crucial to have a website? I have a physical space and was just planning on getting clients through word of mouth and do scheduling over the phone since I have a receptionist/helper. Should I wait until I have a site to open? Everything else is almost done and ready to go.

Hi new here. Idk what my value is and if I’m getting paid an amount that reflects my hard work. I am a paralegal for a small law firm (family and immigration) w only 1 attorney. I have about 20 files or more in my rotation at a time. I work on various types of cases at once. Some are simple, others are extensive. I feel like it’s very unstructured and one of the managers micromanages. It’s like every man for himself. Take home pay is $50k. I am working on my bachelors deg. Do I get paid enough?

What do you do when you feel the goalpost has been/is being moved re: billable requirements? Like there's a spoken vs unspoken? I chose this job based on billables vs salary and what I'm being told I'm expected to do now is 20-30% (at least) > than what was initially agreed upon. Given my other life responsibilities, this is creating a huge strain & I feel like this is slowly getting harder & harder on my spouse & kids. I'm grateful to have lots of good work but not sure how to course correct.
