How do people learn to deal with underperforning people, especially in management, that fail up? The organization I work at seems to be good at that. I find it really frustrating.

I left PA for better wlb but did not expect such a dip in work quality going to private. It's difficult for someone like me that likes to learn.

I'm at a crossroads. I either stick around for a couple of years to strengthen my resume & continue my career path or I take a solid offer back to PA. I'm dreading the hrs.

Honestly, I'd settle for them doing the minimum requirements from the job description.

I'm at the management level and the lines often get blurry between my department and others. Not because the complexity of the work but because of the lack of response and accountability.

Can you learn to fail up where you are, and just stop caring?

Or do something outside of work to keep learning, even if it’s free/cheap online learning that will still level up your skills?

I'm trying both of these. It's been difficult. I am having trouble turning myself off or down.

Every time I feel I'm learning to look the other way, I'm dragged in to fix other's mistakes or shortfalls.

Welcome to Corporate America where often times it's who you know more than actual competence and performance. The competent, reliable, and diligent are rewarded with more work and that usually means picking up someone else's slack. Sure, there are exceptions, but in my nearly 20 years, this is far too normal.

Which offer should I accept? Currently staff 2 at big 4 in Tax with CPA license. I want to leave tax ASAP. Both are public companies +1B in revenue and same salary. Offer 1 - staff revenue accountant so reading contracts, speaking with the sales team and legal team, a lot of work at the end of the months to close books and reconcile transactions to make sure we are ASC 606 compliant. This track usually leads to director of revenue. Offer 2 - internal audit staff so SOX and compliance projects.
