Done that. But today i recived email from infosys that 'your profile does not match'. Is it because i asked for 16 lpa ? Does Natwest bank pay as competitive as Morgan Stanley Deutsche Bank. I mean Associate in MS and DB ranges from 20 to 30 lakh. However when I tried applying to Natwest expecting 40% hike (30 lpa) on current pay of 21 lakh. They straightway rejected me and said its not in their budget. I did this as a junior too! I’d think about the kinds of questions that will help you gauge what kind of manager and team member they’ll be. Things like what their management style is like, their approach to teaching more junior people on the team, what they like about being in a management position, etc. Oh, and what their previous experience has been managing a team (can be telling if they’ve never done that before).
Hope that helps!
Ask them what was the “best” achievement management wise and what was their worse moment or lesson learned.
You can also ask how would they manage and lead a junior person who is struggling and someone who is doing great.
This should give some insight into how they handle the good and the bad.
People will always give positive answers when asked about their management style or how they work with others.
It’s the difficult times when people really show who they are.

Consider that they’ll probably think it’s weird you’re interviewing them. My advice would be to treat it more like an opportunity to get to know them and the work they’ve done.
Ask what kind of ideas they like and how they operate day to day. Ask why they want to work in your company and what new ideas they would like to bring to the team.
And if you get a good vibe, maybe show that you respect their level and experience by asking what they could teach you. In general, keep the questions open ended and encourage discussion.
I’d ask them what they think their biggest contributions to the team will be, and where they’ll be leaning on the team for support. This will really illustrate where they’ll be confident and hopefully reveal the kind of leader they’ll be when it regards trusting the expertise of their team.

Ask where their head was when they were at your level. What they’d tell themselves at your stage.
