Ageism is the industry’s dirty little secret. If you were 25, they’d call it ambition — at 42, they act like it’s desperation. Own your experience and make them catch up to you.
Hi, I changed career at 49 from publishing into TV, and it was tough - but I was fortunate enough to have some similar aged bosses who were actually impressed I was prepared to take step downwards (I started as a runner!) I was lucky enough to move quite quickly - however I'm now really struggling to find more work after my last contract ended. I'm now 53 and feel like agism is rife. Those younger than you (in their 20's and 30's) do seem to feel Is should be in a higher position than them and I'm out for their lower level jobs. And those in my age bracket or older think I should be at a higher level than I am - I don't know what to do. Its so demoralising. I can only say that I am very open to all ages in all jobs. Tell them to watch 'The Intern' with Robert Di Niro!!
Wait till your 65:)
Your young!! Keep swinging.
