Yeah we always call it a "rose and a thorn" and when we have small team meetings everyone says their rose and thorn from the week. It's a nice ice breaker and can often be funny or heartening. I also think creating regular team activities that don't take a lot of planning are great. Worked on a team that did a weekly trivia night at a local pub and it was so much fun. Everyone got to know each other a lot better than if we had done some kind of corporate team building activity

Thank you for sharing! I will try some of these activities out.
One thing that I like to do is host a group lunch whenever anyone new started with the team. I would ask the new member to pick a restaurant they wanted, and we’d all share a meal. It would be an informal “meet and greet”, and we’d share a fun fact about each other. Over time, we all learned new things about each our team every lunch and tease each other regarding previous fun facts. So far, my teams have really enjoyed it as a highlight and it quickly breaks the ice.

My company has been downsizing due to back to back revenue loss caused by the inflation.
Unfortunately, I'm the latest to suffer a job loss due to this.
I'm open to a Scrum Master, Agile Coach or Snr Project Manager roles.
I have PMP, SAFe Advanced Scrum Master, Scrum Master & Practitioner certifications.
I've worked in AdTech, Digital Transformation, Consulting & Automotive Tech.
I find out its easier to get an interview if one is referred. Willing to share more info for a refferal.

I’m flying my mom to NY for the 2nd time from Taiwan for the birth of her first grandkid! I would love to upgrade her to business since she’s flying alone, doesn’t speak English, & hates flying. The only direct is EVA air. After researching, we think a good option is to use Chase points. My sister and I are combining our points but still short by a lot. I am a career changer on mo 4 of a 6 mo sourcer/researcher contract that I’m not sure will be renewed due to team re-organizing. I have 5 YOE basically in an HR generalist role at a company that didn’t have an official HR function, building systems from the ground up. I also have my SHRM-CP. I am looking for a perm, remote HR generalist or program manager position and getting no traction despite a well-reviewed resume. What do I do? Should I go to grad school?

I started working for a bank and am going through the background check. They found an arrest which was dismissed and the file was sealed a few days after the check. They’re requesting the police report on top of the court order to seal. The police report is BAD. During the arrest (DUI) they wrote the report to make me seem like a complete lunatic. Embellished on several elements of the case. I am worried that giving them this report will cause me to be let go.

"Everybody can be a leader" some say... "Leaders are nurtured not born" say others... True.

But... this is also true: "not everybody wants to be a leader" (whether they can or can't be). It is a fairly common practice in organizations with traditional career management structures for people to "be promoted" into leadership roles as the "end steps of the corporate ladder" that was climbed doing technical work. And, unfortunately, this doesn't work all the time

My remit quadrupled+ in a recent re-org with no increase in pay/promotion, my new director is new to the company and was zero help, and I was passed over for recent promotion during the comp cycle. The new director essentially began shutting me down any time I ask for clarity in my career progression. Now they have taken credit for the project I’ve been building over the past year+ without giving me props whatsoever to higher ups. What is the best plan of action here?

Our annual reviews are approaching & one of my direct reports has been with us for almost six years w/ little growth. My reco was to let him go & find a stronger, hungrier & more motivated designer at the same level. However, my boss instead wants us to promote him in hopes that will spark some motivation. So my team currently uses onenote to house all of our SOPs and reference guides, but it’s becoming a monstrosity and it’s really hard to search and navigate. What programs do you use to provide your team with resources? Or is there some trick to onenote organization that we are missing maybe?
