Meal prep on weekends. It takes like 3-4 solids hours to meal prep healthy meals for 5 days but it’s worth it. My instant pot saves my life when I’m dying at the office. I second the walking pad, but also you’re more productive when you have endorphins. Let that justify being active. Prioritize giving yourself a 30-60 minute dead zone in the evening or early morning where you put your phone on do not disturb and go for a walk/gym/etc.
You have to carve out the time. Usually, at least in transactional, unless you're actually right around closing time, needing something ASAP can be within an hour or two and you can take the time to eat something quickly
As a client, after seeing all the bills I’m paying for live deals I am delighted to see posts like this
This sounds just like a busy period. You will get better at time management and multitasking. Maybe you can take a call while you go for a run or lift weights from your desk at home. Believe me, a 15 minute lift/aerobic session can do wonders.
Get a Vitamix and learn how to make energy-dense shakes. Possible ingredients can include dates, oats, peanut butter, bananas, Greek yogurt, etc. in addition to a protein powder of your choice. Easy to sip throughout the day.
My breakfast shake is a banana, half an avacado, 1-2 handfuls of raw spinach (~ 1/2 cup), 10-12 medium frozen strawberries, 1.5 cups water, 1 scoop Gold Standard whey powder (vanilla icecream flavor). It looks like mud but tastes like a treat, and I know I’ve started the day with a serving of veggies.
Put recurring time on your calendar everyday for you. Break it up however makes sense for your schedule, but that way you have designated breaks in your day to eat/make a personal call/scroll for a brain break/do admin tasks etc. Some days you may work through your breaks, but at least you can get in the habit of setting aside some time for yourself.
Get a walking pad and standing desk for wfh days!
Get rid of the dog.
Kidding - these periods happen. Sounds rough but will pass. People should understand when you need to do life stuff
Love bone broth packets! I just use an empty keurig to make mine because I am that busy/lazy
Start small. Try for 15 minutes to walk away from your desk and grab a quick snack. If you can do this twice through the day you will start to feel better. The ideas on meal prep and shakes will increase the quality of food you have and also help your energy levels.
Transactional work often comes in waves so you should have times when it is easier to take the much needed breaks and even throw in a workout without feeling like you should be working.
Using your resources can also help. If you have a team of legal assistants and law clerks/paralegals that can help - reach out to them and see how they can better support you. Learning to delegate is an important part of a successful practice and it's never too early to start.
Hire a dog walker and order some ready made meals like Factor. During my peak years, I had a dog walker come twice a day even when I worked from home. It gave me peace of mind.
Truthfully, come hell or high water, I would still make sure you get at least 20 minutes outside for a walk stretching your legs at some point in the day. Leave your phone at home. Breathe.
I’m an adult so I find a way to handle it
it’s hard don’t worry you aren’t alone but it will pass, you will adjust and you’ll learn to draw the four corners of your life against this job (not all that insightful but hope it helps)
