Good advice from A1 - also wanted to add if you met someone several months ago (or more) and they reached out via LinkedIn or email saying something like the below, would you think negatively of them? Chances are they may want to connect too or at least be open to it. And if they don’t want to they either won’t answer or they’ll let you know they’re busy. Either way you can’t lose.
“Hi ____, we met at ___ last year and I realized we haven’t connected since. It would be nice to catch up soon. Let me know if you have some time in the next couple weeks to jump on a quick call.”
Keep a list of contacts and set a reminder to follow up with one or two people on your list once month. As for reaching out to them after a long period, I doubt anyone will care that much. But you could ask them for advice or tell them about a small victory you had recently. Or just acknowledge it’s been a while and you’d like to reconnect.
Create a recurring calendar event. I know it’s weird but it helps
