How do you manage your work and life balance?

Just say no. Family first, job second. Over the years I’ve given up too much for the job with no return. I learned to say “I’m sorry, I have a family obligation, I will attack this first thing tomorrow. “ I don’t check emails on weekends or in the evening. My team knows that if there is an emergency to call me. I stick to my to-do list, I have a good relationship with my line manager, and I’ve learned to turn off. If there are people around you who have bad time management skills then help them improve and stick to your guns. As my former colleague used to say “poor planning on your part does not constitute an emergency on mine.”

Has this been an issue with UBS cultures?

I don’t check email or teams outside of work hours or when I’m on PTO. I don’t have notifications turned on on my phone. I’ve let my boss know these things when I could work them in to conversations naturally. I take all my PTO. If more work is asked than I’m already committed to I ask what my boss would like me to prioritize or bump. If I am working weird hours for some reason, I schedule teams messages or emails to go during business hours so no one gets the idea I’m available at weird hours or working then.

I know both slack and teams lets you schedule chat messages! On outlook you may have to use the web app to schedule an email - can’t remember if you can do that in the desktop app :)

It's tough, trust me. I usually have to write out a list each week of things I need to accomplish and figure out how to balance those with my work. I've found planning ahead solves a lot of these issues. The only problem with it is staying consistent with it. If you don't stay consistent, it'll never work.

I also tried doing lists. And found it is so hard to stay consistent

I usually start with my yearly PTO and plan 2-3 days a month (knowing with sick kids another 1-2 may pop up) and trying to plan my monthly sitters/childcare accordingly. Once I have a rough year/month plan I move down to week by week urgent and time sensitive home and work priorities.

Ask me anything as there are very few reviews available online.
To clear few misconceptions
1. Global projects are available here
2. They've started mentioning Bonus, Gratuity amount etc in offer letter
3. Work life balance depends on Project and managers you work with
4. Inside opportunities if you're the creamy layer
5. PF amount in offer letter is the total deduction and not just company's contri

Anyone a manager? I’m recently diagnosed (26F) and I can’t help but beat myself up everytime I fall short of my to do list. Makes me feel like a huge disservice to my team. I’ve been trying vitamin D and working out, but it makes my “highs” and “low” SO extreme. The simplest things are so complex in my mind.

If anyone feels similar, how do you manage these feelings? I’m personally considering switching to an individual contributor role, but can’t help but feel like a disappointment if I do.

Misled on Maternity Leave Policy. I found out I only get 4 weeks pay for maternity leave (STD +“sick days”). I will take 12 weeks but wont get paid for 8 weeks. I work for a US, west coast based company in the tech/VC industry. Their website claims to offer “paid parental leave and other progressive benefits for parents”. I didn’t find out until after I was hired their pay was only 8 weeks but since I have been at the company less than 12 months, I don’t qualify for their policy. Is this unfair?
