Focus on preparing for the next busy season….sorry, but unfortunately there is truth in that.
I have been in PA for over 4 years now and try to schedule post busy season getaway and rent a cabin where there is no cell phone reception, preferably. I take 2-3 days there just to bring myself to earth. It helps to recharge and see that life is not just work. Then, try to schedule something in between busy season like going to the farm for fruits picking; movies; getaway with friends; family gatherings. These seem trivial but scheduling these is important.
I am struggling with going to the gym. Just can not get my a** out for it. I can handle walks at of the neighborhood.
We all struggle more or less in our own ways. Just have to find what works for you and stick to it.
Good luck! You are not alone on this journey!

Thank you! I am struggling with gym as well.
Jump to private or another job that does not have the churn and burn of busy season. After 8 years of churn and burn in public accounting I took an opportunity at a smaller company… still doing taxes for clients but this is the first fall of my entire career where I didn’t burn out and didn’t have to work in excess of 40 hours per week. I feel FREE and HEALTHY. And I did not realize what a toll on my health this industry was until now when I am looking at it from the outside. Get out as soon as you can.
Manager level but I was on track to make SM within the year
Play some golf; grab drinks mid day with buddies; spend time with family; vacation; take time for yourself; buy yourself something nice; … basically take a mental reset for a week or so doing the only necessary at work and come back refreshed and reenergized

Thank you. Best post busy season to do list ever. Though I am not so sure I can have a mental reset in just a week or so lol. Burnout has been worse and worse every season at my company and maybe this industry too
Keep yourself busy at work-organize your files, emails, etc. Work only 8/9-5. Have something to do before & after work - go to gym, clean a room in your house, actually prepare breakfast/dinner and have a good meal with family/friends. Spend time outside, etc.

Thank you, that’s actually quite some time you put into this job. If the base for calculation is 2000 work hrs. 6 month busy season and 4 month non busy season (excluding one month for holiday purpose and one for PTOs) 6/10*2000*100%+4/10*2000*60%=1200+480=1,680; I guess at your level, you would need an extra 100 hrs for business development. Is my calc right?
After being laid off from a job I loved after last tax season, I’m still hoping to find a similar position somewhere else. I’d gladly help ease the burden of the grueling tax season if it meant that I had similar benefits and culture of my previous employer.
Take on a personal project - develop an app, take a personal interest course, travel across the country on a sleeper train.

I’m in the south. I’m spending more time outside, and I’ve picked up exercising (walking & lifting weights). And scheduled to take quite a bit of time off going forward.
Get organized and prioritize a to do list. Plan out your time sheet for tomorrow today.
Quit accounting haha
