I have been working in the construction industry for 2 years under a general contractor. I am wanting to get into consulting and my ideal role would be something like an Associate in Major Projects Advisory with KPMG. I’m curious to know which firms/companies have positions and departments like the one mentioned that I could apply for?

That's what networking is for. You find someone in your network who works for the company. They then advocate for you to get your resume noticed or to help you get that first interview. They can also help you prep for the interview by giving you insider information to give you an edge when answering interview questions.
Has he considered volunteer work where he can gain skills and take leadership roles? This can help to build a network of folks who can attest to his work as a contributor and a leader. AND he will grow in confidence and enthusiasm because the best way to get out of your own head is to do something good for someone else. Helps make this time of frustration a win-win!
This is such a common frustration. A lot of the time it really does come down to networking and visibility. Reaching out to someone who already works at the company, engaging with their posts, or even sending a polite message to a recruiter or hiring manager can sometimes make the difference. It’s not always easy, but building those connections over time often helps your resume get seen by the right people. Wishing you the best in your search!
This is great advice, Zoe. If there are companies that you're interested in, then follow them on LinkedIn and Glassdoor. Recruiters will see this and take note, especially if they're hiring for those companies.
Also, whenever you apply for a job ad, there's sometimes a recruiter listed. If there is, reach out to him or her with a short email. A brief email introducing yourself and letting them know that you've applied for that position. Mention a strong skill or accomplishment that fits with the job requirements. This gives the recruiter a heads up, and they usually will look for your application.

REALITY: Job Posts have a multitude of purposes, including a scan for potential candidates if a manager wishes to have a pool of potential candidates to makes hiring/firing decsions.
OFTEN, these scans do not respond to applicants unless there is truly a desire by the manager to proceed with the hire/fire action.
Unfortunately, in today's business environment, there are more FIRES than there are HIRES occurring, especially in the multinational companies.
Well I'm still employed after 6 months, so your guess is as good as mine. I've tried everything. Cold DMs on LinkedIn, custom resume, cover, CV. No dice. I get like one interview request every couple weeks in spite of spending hours applying daily. It's maddening.
