How does everyone handle managing their caseload and utilizing their paralegal(s)? I litigate primarily, with occasional small transactional projects that come up in the course of those files. It’s usually real estate related—drafting a purchase agreement, deed, etc. My firm is not one where we specialize so much that each case has the same process as every other case. So it often feels like I’m having to tackle something brand new in each and every case. (cont.)

Anyone a manager? I’m recently diagnosed (26F) and I can’t help but beat myself up everytime I fall short of my to do list. Makes me feel like a huge disservice to my team. I’ve been trying vitamin D and working out, but it makes my “highs” and “low” SO extreme. The simplest things are so complex in my mind.

Hello everyone! How do you manage holiday pay when the holiday is on a Saturday/ Sunday. Any tips on leaving a firm “correctly”? Was about to go “of counsel” with my firm of 6 years, but then another firm whose partners I really respect (and personally like) offered me a partnership position. I predict my current bosses will *flip* (cut off file access immediately, try to beat me to calling my clients, etc.), so how do I set myself up for a successful transition?

I’ve been negotiating a settlement on behalf of a client. OP is a major corp. we’ve gone back and forth for months, almost a year. Finally came to a final agreement and we’re reviewing for final signature. Then client is reviewing and decides they want something else modified. It’s a point of contention. OP has said no. Should I communicate this to client before pushing back against OP’s rejection of the mod?

Usually I go through my sent inbox but it has so much extra info so it’s not a quick scan. Plus outlook does weird things sometimes like combines conversations so I only see most recent sent item in that convo. When did you know your firm wasn't right for you? I'm not sure if it's just the stress of being a new attorney with a family or if my job isn't the right fit. I work in civil litigation and am consistently below my billables. I can't stay late because my kids need me and I can't work on the weekends because I have to maintain my house and take care of my kids. I'm being constantly told to work harder, stay later, etc but it's not practical. Or am I not approaching this with the right mindset?

What to do when you’re feeling overwhelmed but still need to bill and meet deadlines?

I’m a new third year associate working at a satellite office of a midsize firm. I feel like there aren’t enough hours in the day to truly get good at my job or the multiple areas of law I’m asked to practice. What are some things you’ve done to gain confidence in your practice area?

I am sure this is a question with an obvious answer, but does anyone else just feel absolutely trapped in a job they hate because of their student loans? I’m three years out of law school and I still have $160K in student debt despite making aggressive payments. I work in a larger firm (not big law per se, but 250+ attorneys and big for the market). I am pretty unhappy with my job the vast majority of the time, but I feel like I have no options. $160k at 6% and 7% interest cannot be ignored.

I'm in district court right now and the judge is insisting on reading his entire opinion, CITATIONS AND ALL RIGHT NOW, with the litigants just...sitting here. Send fun memes.
