👀 How far is too far when embellishing your resume?

If someone called your former boss and asked, “Hey, is all this stuff true?” what would they say? If your first thought is them laughing and saying, “This is all BS,” you’ve probably gone too far with the embellishments.

likefunny

Stop before a thorough reference check would damage your credibility.

Embellishing is one thing, lying is another

The line in the sand is the same as with court filings. Are you comfortable signing on the signature line and defending each sentence?

like

I would never embellish.

like

If asked about an entry on your resume, can you discuss it without lying or admitting that it’s wrong?

like

Can you do the work? (whatever you are claiming on your resume)

Will your prior manager call B.S.?

If you cannot do the work, you will be terminated in short order when they realize you embellished too much.

Very true. Very very true. LOL

Law is a trust profession. When the embellishment (or the resulting erroneous reliance) would damage that trust, you’ve crossed the line.

Would love any advice on how to break into a new industry!
