Does anyone have any insight into accounting roles at Amazon, particularly in the Arlington/DC area? An Amazon recruiter reached out about accounting roles, but the posts in this bowl are about Seattle. Trying to decide if the culture/wlb/pay is even worth looking into since it sounds like the interview process is intense. Base pay seemed pretty low in other posts, but they were a year old and for Seattle.

Not ideal, but don’t sacrifice your health for a job
Thinking about taking a gap too. Idk why taking a career break is frowned upon. We are going to have to work another 30-40 years why can’t we take some breaks?
Yeah it does matter for career progression and opportunities.. but I wont bother getting on my soapbox
I’ve done it before and I was fine. I’ll do it again but atp pwc stay trying me
I had 7 years exp , took a year gap to start my own business and travel with the flexibility, just signed an offer at my dream organization that gets me back to the comp I was at before + some . Take the gap if you need it, focus on health but also have a story from the gap. Don’t just sit on your butt playing Xbox. I will warn you it will be difficult to interview after the gap, people will always ask, and the real insane ones will strike you off due to the gap, but there are just as many really great orgs and spots that will come at you with open arms.
You can do consulting/part time (audit, tax internal audit). If you have CPA or B4 exp pretty easy to do. CPA firms can be desperate if theres lot of turnover which there usually is. And yes I’ve worked for myself for 2 years as a career gap doing something unrelated to accounting, so it can be done. Now I’m in industry at a pretty chill company.
If you leave with nothing lined up you'll be desperate and take some lackluster industry job. It's a common trap for accountants. You're right to get out though. If you're interested peep my profiles to find my playbook.
I just quit my job because of toxic culture. I tried so hard to stay. I am either all in or all out. I wish I could have looked for a job while I stayed but I do not have a good poker face. The more I tried to hide how I felt, the worse it got. I wanted to stay and help change the culture, but my therapist said I could not do that for them. It was too big of a problem for one person to change. And my mental health just could not take it anymore.
I mean regardless what others think, how do you feel about it. I personally wouldn't feel comfortable doing that, it can be easy to get another job but if it takes time... Don't want to become desperate and corner yourself into having to do something that isn't helping your career (or worse, knocks you off-track from your career)
