How hard it is for a non US citizen to move out of NYC (as a 4th year) to say Chicago/LA/Houston/Austin and have a viable path towards partnership? Feels like if you’re not from there it’s already hard, but if you’re not even American…

Chicago/LA is relatively easier than Houston/Austin

I mean it’s an incredibly small sample size, unless you include K&E NSPs. If including NSPs then yes all of the internationals who stayed long enough. If equity, no, though one seems to be in a good position to do so in the next couple years.

i find Chicago fine for internationals (although I am still junior, but I know a few first gen immigrants made partnerships). just be prepared to answer what do you like about Chicago/your tie to Chicago. a lot of internationals stay in Chicago for a few years before moving to coastal cities (both in law and finance), so you need to convince the firms you are staying for the long term.

Do you have a green card? Also what is your ethnicity?

(I ask as a non-white non-USC)

like

Nope not yet, ans I am arab lol in NYC that’s a no brainer, but in those states I have no idea that’s why I asked

Lots of international lawyers in Houston due to the energy industry I have found

Houston is the best honestly

Thanks all. Thanks A2, I’ve witnessed that as well. As it’s the case for every firms regardless of the location, i guess I need to stabilize my immigrant status first so that it doesn’t become a headache for the firm - I agree with A4.

Don’t come to Austin.

We just don’t want you 🍻

Looking for guidance. I’ve been passively applying to Director roles since January, and actively for 2 weeks now. I’ve gotten one call for a position I didn’t apply to and no other response. Is there something I should be doing to get more traction?

For context, I was hired as a site GM. Then 8 months later made a regional. In January I was placed in a Director capacity pending position approval. The position has been postponed a year tentatively but I’ve been asked to continue in unofficial

Hey everyone. I am not an ADHD consultant, but mom to a 6 year old who is very likely ADHD (we will be starting the diagnosis process soon). I wanted to hear from anyone who was also diagnosed as a young kid on any advice you have for me? Knowing what you do now, would you recommend meds for a 6 year old (if it comes to that)? What other solutions/therapies can I use with my kid? Please, any advice is welcome!

I lateraled into a niche practice group in Sept 2021. I also have a 1 year old and have been mostly remote since I started - but have been keeping busy tracking towards 2400-2500 hours. That said getting to know people only remote has been kind of awkward at times (email only can be tough to decipher) although as a working mom the pros vastly outweigh the cons. Yesterday my main partner asked me to come in Thursday bc he will be there and set a time to meet. Is this good/bad?? kind of nervous!
