Hey there!
I am a Masters Student majoring in Machine Learning. I am in my first semester and I am kind leaning to explore Data Science as well. Could any Professional Data Scientists help me out on getting started? What skills do I focus on? What kind of projects should I have on my portfolio?
I have tried looking this info out in the internet but its all overwhelming. Hoping to get some honest guidance here!

Chicago is usually about 20-25% lower for salaries - but so is everything else.
Seems low
If you only have 2 years of experience, 61k is very good. Don't worry about NY salaries btw. They're higher, but so is cost of living.
It's regular agency, and I have a MA in Economics with two years of relevant experience
maybe a little low but not much. it’s tough with a masters right out of school - the degree doesn’t really materialize its value until later on (and I have one...speaking from experience here)
I'm at 60k at 2years experience as well. Agency life.

senior analyst at 2 years is a bit rare. or been a senior analyst for 2 years ?
Sounds about right. (Possibly slightly low.)
It depends heavily on your skill set and organization size. The NY market is also slightly higher.
Seems really low. I’m paid 62k as an analyst in NYC with 2 years experience
How much do you think you should be making with two years of experience in Chicago?
Sounds pretty low. 65-70K in the Tampa Bay region is decent and Chicago is pricey
