How it get over my fear of putting time on people’s calendars to teach me things or network? I always feel like the people above me are so busy and that I am inconveniencing them by booking something, but I really just want to learn 😭

Are there other ways to learn the things you're planning to ask them? Make sure you don't schedule time with people for that. Do you research and come with targeted questions about application, their experience, and nuance, rather than simple "how to."

BTW: Fishbowl is evidence of how much people love giving advice. We don't know you at all, and we all cared enough to spend 1 minute responding to help you. I'd imagine that's exponentially higher for someone who a) works at your company, b) might work with you in the future. Hope that helps.

I'm a person. I wear big boy pants and if I think talking to you for 30 minutes every other week or once a month is an ineffective use of my time, I'll either point you to another leader or I'll tell you directly. In all reality though, it is worth the time hit to build a future ally and be able to assess whether I want you on a project of mine.

like

People love to talk about themselves. Unless that individual is drowning in work at the moment, just about anyone who you setup time with to understand how they got to where they are today… with an offer to support them where you can so you can learn more, will only grow to like you.

OP, if you have a genuine interest to learn another persons story, it is almost always going to be worth to reach out.

like

I would reach out to them first and ask if they have some time to show you X. Then they won't be surprised at the meeting invite

like

Send a teams ping and ask if they can help you with x. Then ask if you can put a short mtg on their calendar.

We have all been there and needed help to learn something. No one miraculously knows it all. Don't worry.

Have an agenda and be prepared to drive the conversation such that the other person knows you’re getting something useful out of their time. Most would be happy to talk in that circumstance

Start with praising them for their achievements, knowledge, expertise and then suck them to talk about it to you for hours

Then go to industry. Consulting is not a place to learn, but crash and burn.

I think it depends on the person and topic you want to learn. I would reach out to the person first and ask them 1) if they would be willing to help you 2) if yes when they would be willing to do it

Personally if I’m going to do something like that it’s going to be Monday morning or Friday morning. I also expect that you would do something research and come prepared with questions.

So since it's 10-15 day, since I joined. Can I leave this company, since I've got a better offer, with my suitable location.
PS: I have also received the laptop, but didn't login or do anything yet.
Please help me, can I still leave the company? And return the laptop to them. Or I have to continue here itself?

Hi - I am on H1B visa and got laid off from my previous job in April. My 60th day will be June 28th. I got another offer from a company who has agreed to do an H1B transfer for me but it will NOT be done by June 28th.

What are my options? Do I have to go back to India and come back after H1B transfer is approved?
