Highly recommend the opk strips! I used the femometer ones on Amazon and they’re cheap but effective. We took a while to get pregnant and part of it was because my dates were all off. The strips helped us plan better and understand my cycle.
My last pregnancy, my ovulation cycle was off by a week! I was actually to the point of stopping (taking the test) but figured I’d do one more day - and there was the peak day.
32, first time we tried. That said, I haven’t been on BC for over 10 years (we used condoms, BC worsens my migraines), and this is my first pregnancy.
I had tracked my period and knew I was ovulating when we tried. I laid in bed for 15 minutes afterwards before getting up. We also tried every other day during my ovulation because we read that “mature sperm” works best. Also! There’s a day you’re ovulating where you’re, um, more viscous in your discharge. That’s the baby maker day — the thickness of the mucus helps carry the sperm up.
This is similar to my story. It happened much quicker than we realized and now I am 6 months pregnant. I really think being off bc for sooo long is what helped.
Best wishes OP! It took my friend over two years (and lots of fertility treatments) to finally get her little girl, and she is perfect. Expecting Better has a great chapter on this, too.
Just got a positive test last week after 5 months (4 cycles) of trying, though the last 2 were the only ones where I had positive ovulation tests documented. Definitely recommend those tests as I learned I ovulated later and had longer cycles. It felt like a long time, but when talking to the nurse after I scheduled my first OB appointment she was like "oh, not very long at all." It's normal for it to take 6 months, and even up to a year isn't necessarily concerning. I know for me, we'd been planning to try for quite a while and covid delayed BC removal so by the time we started I felt more than ready. It's frustrating! I found the \TryingforaBaby subreddit quite helpful.
2 months with my first. 2 years + fertility treatments with my second. 1 month with my third, which I unfortunately miscarried. But given how fast we conceived I have hope!
Best wishes to you!! ♥️
First time for us took 6 months - mainly BC it took a while to get my body used to not being on a pill. Second kid took another 7, but it was a combo of recovering from not-related surgery.
It sucks BC your body is unique and while it has similar in terms of parts, it works the way it does. Eat well, treat yourself and enjoy the sleep if you can.
5 years.
3 months seems like a lifetime but it’s very normal to have not gotten pregnant yet. It took me about a year at 34 and my best friend 7 months. And this was using OPKs to track ovulation, and I’m was temping as well.
6 months
First pregnancy was really quick...second one took quite a bit longer. Highly recommend getting an app to track your periods to better predict when you ovulate. Plus I also used ovulation sticks - the digital reader one- so I could be even more informed on when was likely the right time.
They say to give it a year before you go to a fertility specialist (depending on your age). Don’t stress about it! Also, get your thyroid checked. My sister and my best friend both had issues getting pregnant due to thyroid issues.
That’s great that you got that checked and that it’s normal! Yeah, it’s good you’re going to try the OPK tests. I know it’s hard not to worry, but sometimes it just takes little while. Just enjoy the sexy time 😘😘😘
6 months and we were doing ovulation tests every month.
I found the free online apps to track ovulation really helpful.
Basal Body Temperature method worked for us. 3 months is nothing. Lots of people try for 12+. Watch the Great Sperm Race on YouTube. It will show you with amazing creativity the sheer impossibility of pregnancy and how much luck has to do with it. Highly highly recommend.
3 months is early days. First time took me 6 months and in my friend group that was fast. I had an appointment to go to the OB to see if anything was wrong and took a test that morning and it was positive. They generally say to try for a year before investigating further and as hard as it is, stressing really doesn’t help. Good luck!
First time it took us close to 2 yrs. We had to go to a fertility specialist.
Second time, was an accident 🤷🏻♀️ I have pcos so I didn’t even know I was ovulating.
Thank you so much AD1! Really appreciate your detailed explanation!! ♥️♥️♥️
3 months is nothing. They say try for 6 months if you’re over 35 till you see a specialist. That being said you can consider getting a fertility/hormone blood test if you want to know more what’s going on. I really wish I had gotten this done much earlier. You need to schedule it on a particular day of your cycle.
Took me two cycles after being on an IUD for three years. I started using OPK strips (Pregmate was great and tracked on premom which gives you scores) pretty much from the beginning because I was spotting for ages and was afraid I’d miss it. I was also convinced it would take me a year because I was diagnosed with endometriosis, but I guess I got lucky. I did discover the subreddit r/tryingforababy which gave me an outlet for my obsession - might be worth checking out if you’re looking for a community but fair warning it’s easy to get sucked in! Good luck and try to stay positive - you’re waiting for the right one!!!
Almost a year. I was on birth control since I was 16 and didn’t realize I had PCOS which meant I needed to be on meds to get prego. Once I figured that out it was easier. Second time around, went on meds, got prego right away.
Almost a year for the first one.
It took us 3 months. I was shocked it didn’t take longer because I’m 39. I used an ovulation monitor and I guess it really helped. I think it’s completely normal for it to take six months or longer.
Yes to the ovulation monitor! My first conception was super easy but after that I swore by the monitor (2 more pregnancies)
