It depends on the individual initiative and the specific situation. However, in general I would give an initiative at least a few tries before accepting that it didn't work out and it's time to try something else. Sometimes it takes a little bit of time for an initiative to get off the ground, so I would give it a reasonable amount of time before calling it quits.
This is a difficult question to answer because it depends on the initiative and the context in which it is being attempted. Some initiatives might require a longer time frame in order to be successful, while others might not have the potential to succeed no matter how long you give them
