Just found $60 in my wallet! It’s a good day
$100 for farmers market and bakery runs. But I had a designer friend who never left home without $3000 cash. His father fled WWII Europe and impressed upon him that one never knew when one might need to run.
Pro
I thought of walking around with $3000k in cash at all times would scare me more (in the aggregate) than the reality of having to flee and start over with $0.
But then again in my mind, I would just get a job elsewhere. I grew up low income. If we're talking fleeing from war or a great depression, well yeah gonna wish I had a much better back up plan.
$0
I’m curious where all of you actually spend cash...
I moved somewhere without the legality of cannabis. I have to keep cash on hand for my dude because when you don't drink, you need something these days! lol
I like to have around $100

Like actual paper currency? I think I’ve got like $30 in $5s for tips and whatnot and... uh... however much is in my pocket change jar

I have $1. Is this too much? I think the market is overheated right now so I don’t want to invest it.
I think I’ve had $17 dollars in my wallet for about 6 weeks now.

$5 to $60
$200. I always keep a $20 in my phone case for an emergency cab or something. The rest is because my favorite bagel place by my office only took cash. I miss them 😭

Four to six months expenses
I keep $1,000 cash at home in my “bug out bag”. I’m in nor Cal and between wild fire evacuations, earthquake potential, and my experience when the power grid went out in the Michigan for 3 days one summer (2003?!) just need some to get by than be without when I’m dependent on plastic or my phone to pay.

$20 or so...

Right now like 60 because I didn’t spend all of my costco cash back and I don’t have easy access to a physical bank.
I keep $0 in paper cash and have done so for the past five or so years.
I guess an exception is the stash of 2000 RMB I keep under my bed because I’m too lazy to figure out how to deposit it into USD.

20 in ones in my car lol
$500 in my safe, not counting what I carry. Having once lost my plastic and having no way to get cash for a few days I always have a stopgap stash.

Ooof! Definitely an issue. I worried about the very same problem you had.
I have $1000 at a local bank that has many locations in the surrounding states as well. Literally have not touched the money in almost a decade. ATM card is tucked away safe at home. It earns12¢ interest a year lol. But if there is some emergency where I need cash, it's there. When I have kids, I'll probably increase the amount.
I also have checks for my checking account. Almost never use them because I use the send a check through my bank option. But yes, I still need to send checks for my Water and Sewage bills. The ATM card for this account stays in my wallet.
I usually have at least 2 credit cards that I keep mostly at home. Backup in case my wallet gets stolen. But moreso they're cards that I only use for specific reasons.
The money in my HYSA is only accesible through transfers and usually takes 2 business days.
10K paper bag and 3Kcigar box
Agreed. Have some cash in the freezer. Makes it cold, hard cash
I try to keep $50-$80 on me at all times in different denominations so I can have cash for haircuts, tolls, parking, etc.
