People writing all these salaries is great and all. Please also note almost 50% income tax
And then 13% hst over almost everything you pay for
And then 6-10k in property taxes from the leftover money every year.
And remember the exchange rate between cad & usd
Totally agreed, 3M. The money sounds good but when factoring in cost of everything, even the 150k salaries aren’t buying what lower wage earners think they’re buying. This is a place where if you don’t make this kind of salary, you have no prospect of ever owning a place of your own, and if you do make this salary you end up overworked and taxed up the ass for each additional dollar. In return you have to beg for access to healthcare (despite paying 50 grand in income taxes, plus 13% minimum on pretty much everything you ever buy, ignoring other excise or vice taxes), and when you do get it, the services are unambiguously garbage.
People that say this is a good standard are people that come from war torn/unstable countries or from abject poverty, so they have nothing to compare it to. This isn’t the Canada of 10yrs ago. If we’re comparing ourselves to India/the Philippines and patting ourselves on the back, we’re already lost. Those aren’t the standards we should be comparing ourselves to.

Ahh toxic question!
Why? This is something we need to discuss more openly. If we keep treating it as taboo or toxic we will never improve salaries in this country. Talent will just keep going south of the border. More transparency is always better
