Damn.. i usually wing it since it comes out better naturally... So far so good
5 min googling "behavioural interview questions"
5 min going through the list and realizing I can't smoothly answer any of them. 😂 (look, I'm old, it's been a while)
1.5 hr going down memory lane to fish out experiences for each question, type them
30min reviewing the answers and feeling fortunate about some of the past experiences while looking forward to the future
10/10 will prep again
If it’s a Monday and the interview is a Friday, I would make sure to spend a total of 4-5 hours in total (around 1hr per day or two hours each for two days) to go back through my experiences, make sure I can speak about them in detail and at a high level, and rehearse answers to at least 10 behavioral questions. I have to write/type everything so I would open a Word doc or iPhone notes start typing and thinking about those key things that make you the best candidate.

Example: “As an analyst, I made too many assumptions on my first engagement and thought I would look unintelligent by asking questions. After XYZ mistake, through the advice of a mentor, i learned the hard way to never ever make assumptions and to raise my hand if I didn’t know the answers. Since then, I have always asked clients to clarify anything I did not fully understand or have my clients validate the requirements and data points gathered. By having them verify and sign-off, I made sure both my client and I were always aligned. This is what has led to my successes as a consultant on subsequent projects. I believe humility and the eagerness to learn and listen are characteristics of a leader.” Make it more detailed and YOU, but I hope you know what I mean.
Enough so that I’m clear about my narrative and how that aligns with the firm’s vision and my goals
Your lessons learned should have a positive spin and lead to the reason why you’re a great consultant and advisor today.
I agree with being natural, but I’d definitely make sure I have good stories to reference that show impact. The one thing I’d definitely write out and rehearse is the “walk me through your resume” section. That’s your opportunity to stress your key selling points and set the tone for the remaining discussion.
