A couple ideas…
1) Try to co create a process so that she feels comfortable with the standards. For example you could put together a list of the QCs your team does on JDs including types of things she’s given feedback on in the past, and share it with her asking her to add anything she feels necessary. That way whenever you share a deliverable you can say everything on our QC list has been checked, and hopefully over time she stops feeling the need to review in detail knowing that those things are done
2) Take this with a grain of salt for your situation - you might try matching her level of detail in calling things out. Eg if another workstream is being discussed on a call with her, point out some things in a respectful way - something like “I know this isn’t my workstream so please ignore if you’ve already addressed this, but I noticed on this slide XYZ may need to be updated…” Or, on your own workstream make your updates more visible. Eg if you notice something needs to be edited, instead of just making the change and sharing an updated version, say “Hi everyone, we noticed XYZ needed to be updated and have done so across the attached materials. Please let us know if this needs to be changed anywhere else.” I find once clients realize our team can also be scrutinizing of our own work, they trust us to catch things and back off a bit. And when they do bring things up they’re nicer about it because they feel some sense of camaraderie lol
As a senior manager I would ask her if this is the process that everyone has to go through. More than likely this person would say no and then back off.
YOU DON'T REPORT TO HER???? WHATTTT THEEEEE??? I would talk to my direct report about how I'm about to advise "Hey, appreciate your input but I have this." and at least get my one - up's input . But.... THAT'S crazy for someone you DON'T REPORT TO trying to micromanage you.
It’s extremely strange and I’ve never experienced anything like it before! Although it makes me feel a lot better that others think it’s equally bizarre 😆
