Do you mean the manager is competent but believes they're not really (the normal definition of imposter syndrome), or that the manager IS an imposter when it comes to their competence? I think how you cope would depend on which way you mean.

First time home buyer here. Currently waiting to close and trying to make a list of everything I want/need when going from an apartment to a house. Think I have all my basic tasks written down regarding canceling accounts, changing address, etc. Also started a list of tools and necessities for upkeep of house/lawn. Also looking at useful things like smart home devices, kitchen tools, automatic soap dispenser. What are the nice to have and splurge type purchases that have made your life better?

The company I am working for wasn’t what I saw when I started. I made a mistake being a manager. I feel run down and will late in the night making sure things are in order just to be told all the things I’m doing wrong. The location I work for in this company has had managers that had nervous breakdowns and I’m afraid I’m heading that direction.

One issue with the work from home revolution will be the offshoring of jobs. I got laid off and my replacement will be from Mexico City. One time zone away and probably half my salary. It is what it is.

I work for a manager who was an IC for 20 y, and now is making all the classic new manager mistakes. Meanwhile, I left consulting as an EM, so actually have more management experience than him (cont)

Every time I speak to my director (at least twice a week), he works in how he is getting older into the conversation(humorously). For instance, he forgot something non-work related, said “sign of old age”. He recently told a story, said, this is how old people talk. He likes to come across as a grandfatherly figure, but I’m not sure what to say in these encounters. It is always an innocent, non work related context. Have you guys experienced this ? What is an appropriate response ?
