At my last shop strategy was in the weeds from beginning to end. They assisted with content strategy, the positioning, and messagebwith regards to the product and the marketplace, and they helped manage an insane client. They were great and worked really damn hard. Respect.
Strategist or planner? Not the same.
I adore our Strategists.
A good strategist is worth their weight in gold. A bad one can be the biggest obstacle to great work. Most of them are terrible.
Be more specific - what kind of strategist?
Ehh I think it depends. My strategist was supposed to be the intermediary and most client facing, but ended up being another gate to go through; another barrier to overcome
Where I work we're basically digital account managers, so we become account, PM, planning, community managers, copywriters, content strategists, media planners, analysts, etc, all rolled into one. I think it makes us pretty essential to the ops of the agency, but I don't know how much insight we really uncover or how well we inform the creative.
It's another word for planner at my current agency.
There's also other strategy capabilities. OP say what you mean.
I meant a digital strategist that works with creative, account, and analytics to help move the project forward. They are typically on a few accounts.
