There's a book by Paul Jarvis, "Company of One" that is great. It put things in perspective as far as growth. Growth isn't always about scaling, sometimes you can take a smarter more intentional path that leads to sustainable growth.

You never know what gem you might find in these thread discussions!
I read a ton of management books, they all blend together so I can’t recommend any one book. I got a lot of knowledge from understanding quality/TQM, effective communication, negotiation, business process, and financial management. It’s situational.
Not a book, but some podcasts - “manager tools”, “startup therapy”. I like “remarkable people” and kawasakis books in general. Manager tools is a bit old school but has very practical info on how to manage people. Startup therapy hits the nail on the head describing all the things entrepreneurs go through. I also did seminar with Adizes institute, see the YouTube vids for that.
I also get value from guided meditations and self hypnosis. I think we entrepreneurs KNOW what we need to do. What we need more than advice is self discipline, motivation, and clarity of purpose/vision.

How has the "old school" managing styles held up with the new younger generations where the thought process and values seem to be vastly different?
There's a book called extreme ownership by the navy seal, Jocko. It's not about business ownership, but about leadership, ditching egos, taking responsibility, dealing with failure... that sort of thing. I thoroughly enjoyed it and apply the principles I learned from it quite often.

Taking what you read, recognizing its potential, and applying it to different situations. Nicely done!
I focus more on practical skills specific to my field—I’m general counsel and fund manager (and partner) in an entity that focuses on on commercial real estate investments (we manage property in house). So for me, I read up on the law and look through legal forms to see if I can get ideas for my templates). Pricing different kinds of real estate investments is also something I read a lot about. But even going to business school I never got me as facile with MS Excel as I should be. Books and training on that has proven invaluable.
I love Gary Vaynerchuk and his podcast “The GaryVee Audio Experience and his most recent book “Day Trading Attention “
