Only the physical book will do. My mind goes to other things about one minute after starting an audiobook. “Hmmm, I bet I could do the essay this way and the kids would understand it better. Oh, yeah, we need milk, and I gotta pick up that prescription too… Chapter Six? What happened to the first five?!?!”
As for e-readers of any type, after about 10 minutes my eyes feel fried even on a dark setting. But, everyone has different time demands, skills, and tolerances, so you do you. 😁
Oops. Favorite book: West With the Night by Beryl Markham.
Close behinds:
* Where the Crawdads Sing
* To Kill a Mockingbird
* The Phantom Tollbooth
* Green Grass, Running Water
Favorite author: anyone who can string a sentence together with the vocabulary and flow of words like Beryl Markham, make me feel deeply like William Nack, has wordplay like Norton Juster, can put me in someone’s shoes who I have nothing in common with like Harper Lee, can make me snicker like Elizabeth Peters, and who can write suspense like Edgar Allen Poe. Sadly, I feel like there are fewer and fewer skilled authors today.
I like actual books. When I’ve attempted to use audio books, my mind wonders. Some of my favorite authors are R. Yarrow, L. Lowry, and N. Shusterman.
I was (recently retired) a Literature teacher for 27 years. I’m currently working on publishing or putting my 85 page list (Teachers pay Teachers)of all genres I’ve read and would recommend for students. I only included books that I would rate 8 or above out of 10.
Susan May Warren is my favorite author right now. Many of her books have connections with her other series. You almost feel like you know the characters.
I prefer actual books. My brain tunes out audio books. Right now I am deep into the ACOTAR series. So good. Love Sarah j Maas books
I was just at the book store and saw a table with some of her novels. Could you tell me the genre and what you like about them? I’m currently reading all the series of Rebecca Yarros and Hannah Whitten. These are fantasy. I don’t typically enjoy fantasy as much as other genres, but I love these series.
I will listen to the occasional audiobook but I have to be honest that I still prefer reading a real physical book. I don’t care for tablets or ereaders. Bookstores are my happy place and having bookshelves full of books makes me feel better about life. But I understand being too busy to just sit and enjoy some reading. So I hope you get joy from your audiobooks!
I am right there with you OP. I love to read but I rarely have time. However my ADHD just will not let me sit and listen to an audio book although I wish that I could.
