I accepted a job offer at an AmLaw 200 firm that starts me as a post-bar law clerk (about $5k/month). Once I’m admitted to the bar, I’ll be considered for an associate role and salary will be discussed at that time. I think they start associates at 100k, but I’m not completely sure.

I recently got the opportunity to interview at another firm (AmLaw 500) which would hire me at associate pay right away, at 105k. Does anyone have advice for how to leverage a potential offer from this firm?

If they’re AM200 they should be paying more than $100K for a first year

Lots of big firms in less profitable practice areas like insurance defense or L&E are AM200 by sheer size

I was an Associate at a large, well-known mega-firm in NYC for several years before goin private. You say "post-bar" ... if that means you passed the written exam they may be awaiting the results of the obligatory character committee investigation. Sometimes, there are delays. Peace and blessings.

I really liked the first firm, but the uncertainty of the salary is making me a little nervous. I’d be willing to walk away if the interview goes well.

But I do feel bad about accepting the offer and then going to them with an offer from another firm, so advice about that would be appreciated as well.

Well, if you're a new grad you're likely to get several if not many offers ... depending upon your grades and the law school, and they'll know that. I'm a Columbia grad and was a law review editor. Good luck, counselor!

So I had been working as medical interpreter up to the early part of this year. Today, during an interview, the Director with whom I was interviewing genuinely urged me to consider pursuing a career as a PA or even attempt to go to medical school. I had considered it in passing before but today was about the third or fourth time that someone had earnestly nudged me in that direction. Has anyone here made such a career pivot before? I love working in healthcare, there’s nothing like it.

How bad is Yosemite on 4th of July?

Interesting all the noise about these PPT, my take:

The pandemic took all the upside of an IB analyst life (client meetings in person, fancy trips, suit up, worshiped at networking events) and left all the juniors with the downside (long hours, monkey-like type of job, aggressive work environment).

Not that the complaints are not sort of legitimate but you may need to revise the decision-making process that led you to accept a return offer. Specially if you were looking for less hours.
