Rather than not showing up on the date of joining? Can you please guide me? How do I let them know? My talent coach is not reachable

Most employers have job protection while on short term disability and maternity / family leave
I mean, legally, yes you can be laid off on maternity leave. That said, in my experience, companies often try to avoid it because it looks bad, it does crack the door open on legal risk … and in distant third place, it’s a crappy, crappy thing to do.
I’m sorry you have this stress right now. :(
I’ve seen this happen, so I don’t think it is as rare as folks on this thread are implying.
Being on maternity leave doesn’t protect you from company/departmental layoffs. It’s not a good look for the company, but they can do it.
Isn’t that what I just said? If they eliminate your office, or your team (eg recruiting, new r&d division) then yes they can do so. But most of the time they’ll find any other avenue to keep you around for the time being for optics. If you are indeed going to be laid off, more than likely they’ll let you finish up your maternity leave.
Call around local employment lawyers and ask for initial consult and they should be able to guide you or help you negotiate larger severance since you are on leave.

Honestly you should hope they lay you off. You’d have a solid discrimination case that would pay well.
As someone who has looked into this before while my wife was pregnant/maternity leave during early days pandemic, this is not true for most states. I talked to employment lawyers, etc.
The only case you would have is if you could prove they fired you because you were on leave. However some companies may have varying stances on this – eg negotiate better severance to avoid legal issues.

You are THE SAFEST person in the company from layoffs perspective for next 1-1.5 year.
No
Majority of these numbers in the last few quarters have been driven by blue collar jobs. Which is good because production is still strong. However, White collar jobs have been on decline
I haven’t heard of any company laying off during such an important leave of absence. But sometimes some business decisions can be unethical, maybe organizations could have a leeway by hiding under the cover of business decisions. If you company has any strong labor union, you may want to socialize this rumor with their leadership and see what they have to say.
Very few white-collar jobs in the U.S. are protected by unions.
