I am almost done my articling term and am looking for a bit of advice for networking to find a full time associate job once I’ve been called to the bar.

My current firm has the potential for hire back but it has honestly been an extremely terrible experience. It’s kind of an open secret in the area since their turnover for lawyers and support staff is very high.

How does one go about contacting a law firm they are interested in and might want to join ?

Going to preface this by saying that this bowl is primarily made up of US lawyers and won’t be as helpful for Canadian grads. There is a Canadian lawyers bowl as well.

Honestly you just reach out to partners and senior associates at the firm who may be willing to have a chat with you and you can tell them more about yourself (without being cringey and too salesy). Be prepared that 95% of people will ignore you but you only need the rare one or two. I would personally get a warm intro though before reaching out.

Mid-level associate at a mid-size regional insurance defense firm practicing coverage litigation. Salary is capped b/c my firm only does I.D./coverage and has no direct-hire comm clients. Second round of interviews with a comm lit boutique where I would be the only associate with 5 partners. Other than partner track, salary/benefits, and switching from coverage to general comm lit, what qualities of the move should I be thinking about as I weigh my options?
